BOB AND THE MONSTER
Indie-rock hero
turned drug counselor.

An award-winning documentary chronicles indie-rock icon Bob Forrest and his life-threatening addiction, struggle, and transformation into one of the most influential drug counselors in Los Angeles today.

The Challenge
Create a grassroots advertising strategy to optimize visibility and reach in niche markets.

Directed by Keirda Bahruth, Bob and the Monster documents the life and struggles of one of Los Angeles's most popular indie-rockers, Bob Forrest. The film displays captivating interviews, live performances, personal videos, and claymation scenes, revealing Forrest's troubled but hopeful journey from drug "addict" to drug "counselor." Warbasse provided art direction, design, and mobile strategies to support the film's release in select U.S. cities.

The Strategy
Increase user interactions by emphasizing the call-to-action rather than the celebrity.

A studio must be keenly aware of a film's audience to create digital marketing strategies that will have the most impact. The audience for Bob and the Monster was a mixed bag of ages and interests spread across the country. Warbasse designed the one-sheet to compel people to scan the code directing them to a mobile experience that made learning more about the film and buying tickets easy.

Digital One-Sheet

"Philip Warbasse created our QR Code movie poster for the public to interact with and tied it to a mobile site that made it so easy for them to view the trailer and buy tickets - instantly, in a mobile friendly environment."

KEIRDA BAHRUTH, SHAKER FILMS INC.

"I have been a fan of Thelonious Monster's music for over a decade, so it was an honor for me to work with Shaker Films on this documentary. I also believe it's an important film because of the subject matter and Bob's difficult journey to get to this point to tell his story. Keirda and I had numerous discussions about the direction of the strategy, and she understood the benefits of an active mobile campaign with a focus on user behavior." - Philip Warbasse (2011)
